Welcome, Transfers!

The Approaching Stanford and New Student Orientation team is thrilled to welcome you as the newest members of the Stanford community. We are eager to get to know you throughout the Approaching Stanford process this summer and are excited to share the orientation events with you this fall.

At this time, please create your Stanford University Network ID (SUNet ID). When the Approaching Stanford process begins, you will need to use your SUNet ID to check your Stanford email account and to complete your Approaching Stanford Requirements. All Approaching Stanford and official university communications will be sent to your Stanford email account.

On June 7, you will receive your first Approaching Stanford Newsletter by email and gain access to Canvas, both of which will be critical sources of information as you begin your Stanford journey. Your required Approaching Stanford Forms, which include your academic interests and your housing application, will be due on June 30

During the summer, you will need to complete the Approaching Stanford Requirements, including the required Vaden Health Forms and Core Values Trainings. In addition, you will learn about academic life at Stanford and will have the opportunity to take placement diagnostics and tests for certain subject areas, if desired. In August, Explore Courses, Stanford's official course catalog will be updated for the 2023-24 academic year and you can begin browsing courses for the fall and make an advising appointment with the Transfer Advisor to discuss them. After the advising meeting, the Transfer Advisor will release your New Student Advising Enrollment Hold and you will be able to begin enrolling in your fall courses beginning August 30.

As we get closer to the fall (on/around September 1), we'll share the schedule of New Student Orientation events and programs that will introduce you to the rich academic, social, and cultural life at Stanford. Please note that NSO is required for all new students. You must be checked in by 5:00 p.m. on New Student Move-In Day, September 19, and should expect to be fully engaged in NSO from September 19-24. Please do not make any other plans during these days. In 2023, Yom Kippur will begin at sundown on September 24. Students observing Yom Kippur are invited to observe with our Stanford community on September 24 and 25. The first day of Autumn Quarter will begin on September 26, 2023.

We know there will be a lot of questions, and we seek to answer them throughout the summer via our online resources, Canvas discussion boards, and FAQs. You may also contact us if you don't see information listed or have a specific situation to discuss. We have so much to share with you and we cannot wait to get started. Welcome to the Stanford family.
