Academic Advising

The office of Academic Advising provides comprehensive academic advising that will enable you to chart your own educational journey and make the most of your undergraduate experience at Stanford. Every incoming student is assigned a professional advisor who will contact you this summer to begin the advising conversation.

As a transfer student, you will work most frequently with the Undergraduate Advising Director for Transfers, Alice Petty, who will serve as your primary advisor as you begin your time at Stanford. In addition to the Transfer advisor, you will also have the opportunity to meet with other Undergraduate Advising Directors, advisors in the residences and specialized advisors in Sweet Hall. Advisors in the residences offer general academic advising as well as advising for undergraduate research opportunities. Specialized advisors can address coterminal opportunities and pre-professional interests, such as pre-law, pre-health, pre-business, and pre-education.

Over the summer, the Transfer Advisor will invite you to attend advising meetings prior to New Student Orientation (NSO). You will be able to discuss academic interests, course selection, opportunities and resources, and more. In preparation for these conversations, review Academic Information for New Transfers, complete the 2023 Academic Planning Worksheet, and review the course planning resources.

Enrollment for new transfers and continuing students will open on August 30, 2023. You will be able to begin enrolling in your Autumn Quarter courses if you have completed an advising conversation with the Transfer advisor and completed all other obligations required of new students, including submission of health requirements, final school transcripts, and test scores (if applicable). If you have not completed these requirements, there may be enrollment hold(s) on your account preventing you from enrolling.
